The region

The production of our grapes takes place in the wonderful region of Alta Murgia. Its altitude ranges from sea level to 250 meters a.s.l. The soil is calcareous/clayey of medium consistency or tending to become melted, with a sufficient and variable depth and a good fertility. The climate of area is typically mediterranean even for the proximity of coastal area, for this reason temperatures are mild, neither too rigid in winter nor extremely hot in summer.

he espalier or “tendone” growing, the planting distances and the pruning methods in use are the traditional ones; they let to pursue the best and rational position on vine area. The harvest takes place when grapes are totally ripe, generally during the second or the third decade of October.
Human factor represents an extraordinary importance in order to define the area which is suitable to the production of this noble and historic vine: “Uva di Troia”.

Many testimonies certify the passion of Frederic II of Svevia towards that vine, cultivated along the Adriatic coast of Barletta-Andria-Trani Province. It is known also as“Nero di Troia”, “Vitigno di Barletta”or“Uva di Barletta”.
